Automatic transport, manipulation and storage of coil material

The production and processing of strip material involves the automatic transport and handling of wound coils. Especially in this area automated internal logistics offer decisive advantages: they eliminate the need for costly floor-level transport trolleys, save labour costs, reduce the risk of accidents and avoid damage to the material.

The more varied are the materials, sizes or specifications of the coils, the greater is the variety of the logistical objectives. However, all such projects have in common that coiled material demands quite special transport and handling equipment.

Coil transport and handling in a strip treatment plant
For the continuous treatment of strips the coils are brought from the goods-in area or from the plant’s store to an unwinding station, and at the other end of the plant they go through a winding station and are taken away from there. Owing to the large coil weights, and to avoid damage, all these processes have to be carried out fully automatically. Fully automatic coil transport in the goods-in area
An internationally active automobile supplier commissioned H+H with the automation of the material flow in the goods-in area of the plant. As an example, the system installed demonstrates how coils of different materials, in various sizes and weighing up to 3.5 tonnes, can be handled and transported economically.
