In shed 40 at Deutz AG in Cologne diesel engines are built on assembly lines in a wide range of powers and with a total of several thousand different variants, sometimes one at a time. After the end of assembly, test running and colour-coding, the units are placed on a dispatch pallet and transported on roller tracks to the goods dispatch area.
Already at the beginning of the year the goods-in and goods-out area in shed 41 was re-orientated by 90° for reasons of space. As the main logistics partner of Deutz, H+H was entrusted to carry out that work.
Now, in a related step the automatic merging of engine and dispatch pallets is to be rearranged. In this case too the existing transport system in this area has to be completely dismantled and replaced with new equipment. The result of these measures will be to create space for a wider line, which will be used for additional continuous-assembly work stations and for the movement of stackers and personnel, as well as for the driverless transport system (DTS) used by Deutz.
